Jolly Pumpkin is heading across Lake Michigan to open a new restaurant and bar in Hyde Park, near the University of Chicago, in 2017. The 5,800-square-foot restaurant will serve craft beers, distilled spirits, and wines available through the Northern United Brewing Company (NUBC) brand – including Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, North Peak Brewing Company, Nomad Cidery, Civilized Spirit and Bonafide Wines, as well as a full pub menu.

What better way to partake of these fine beverages than from the deck of the Schooner Manitou, while sailing in the freshwaters of Grand Traverse Bay (and northern Lake Michigan, weather permitting). The Traverse Tall Ship Company is offering a 4-Day Michigan Craft Beer Cruise (Sept. 15-19) with chef and craft beer aficionado Amy Sherman, who will serve as host and tasting guide.

Hemingway Enthusiasts Trek to Petoskey for Annual Fall Historical & Literary Conference

The Michigan Hemingway Society is currently accepting reservations for its annual conference, October 14-16, at Stafford’s Perry Hotel in historic downtown Petoskey (a property built in 1899—the same year Hemingway was born and a place where he stayed in 1916—paying just 75 cents for his room). This year’s Michigan Hemingway Conference theme is 1919—the last year that a 20-year-old Hemingway spent in the Walloon Lake area, 10 miles southwest of Petoskey.
