Michigan Sports Alliance Launches Virtual Michigan Lighthouse Tour for 2021

The team run/walk virtual event covers 2,021 miles and features 28 Michigan lighthouses

The Michigan Sports Alliance will host the 2021 Michigan Lighthouse Tour starting March 1 – May 3, 2021. The tour is a virtual team-based challenge for groups of 6-24 people to collectively run or walk 2,021 miles over the course of two months while visiting 28 of the featured Michigan lighthouses.

The 2021 Michigan Lighthouse Tour kicks off at the Milliken State Park Lighthouse in Detroit, MI and leads participants around Lake Huron, crossing the Mackinaw Bridge, through the Upper Peninsula and then down the Lake Michigan coastline. The journey ends at the St. Joseph North Pier Lighthouse in St. Joseph, MI.

Registration is now open for anyone regardless of age or ability level. Registration will close Friday, February 26 at 11:59pm EST. All participants competing in the Michigan Lighthouse Tour will receive a t-shirt, finisher’s medal, virtual race bib, pre-mapped course, virtual travel experience, and virtual postcards at each of the selected lighthouses.

The Michigan Lighthouse Tour will utilize an online platform called My Virtual Mission that will have a live leaderboard, current destination markers for all registered teams, GPS-enabled tracking services for the participants activity to sync automatically, and Google street view of the featured lighthouses. When a team reaches a milestone, they will receive an introduction about that specific lighthouse as well as an online postcard where they can learn the history of the lighthouse and explore the area virtually.

The 2021 Michigan Lighthouse Tour is currently sponsored by Promote Michigan, the West Michigan Sports Commission, and the Michigan Sports Alliance. Sponsorships are still available, please contact the Michigan Sports Alliance if you are interested in promoting the tour.
