Veterans Day Concludes Strong Foundations, New Possibilities – Chelsea’s Community-Wide Historic WWI Centennial Exhibition

For the past three-and-a-half months, the community of Chelsea in northwest Washtenaw County, has proudly displayed 36 unique banners throughout town as part of the historic interpretation installation World War I Centennial: Strong Foundations, New Possibilities.

Chelsea Uses Technology to Tell its Local World War I Historic Stories

The 36 historic banners that make up the Chelsea District Library’s community-wide historic interpretation installation, World War I Centennial: Strong Foundations, New Possibilities, have found a digital home at MapMe—a publishing platform that allows for the mapping of sites and sharing of stories.

Hello Girls Presentation Brings World War I Stories to Life at Chelsea District Library

When the U.S. entered World War I in 1917, General John “Black Jack” Pershing insisted on bilingual switchboard operators near the front lines. Although formally known as the Signal Corps Female Telephone Operators Unit, sworn in by the U.S. Army Signal Corps, they were referred to as the Hello Girls.

Ribbon Cutting Planned for 11am on Saturday, July 30 For Chelsea District Library’s Upcoming World War I Centennial Historic Display

As part of a continuing effort to chronicle Chelsea’s history, the Chelsea District Library presents World War I Centennial: Strong Foundations, New Possibilities, commemorating the centennial anniversary of WWI. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 11-11:30am in downtown Chelsea.
