BRCL presents a four-week series exploring cartooning and comic book arts. Open to all ages – participants younger than 10 please bring an adult co-learner! Materials are provided, but if you have a favorite sketchbook and pencils please feel free to bring them.

February 5 – Introduction to Manga with Carrie Weis, Museum and Gallery Director at FSU & Professional Artist and Writer. Discovering the 10 things you must know to be magnificent in the Manga drawing style, along with some pretty cool tips on how to create characters and a story-line.

February 12 – The Art of the Comic Strip, with nationally syndicated artist and Big Rapids native, Jeff Mallett, creator of Frazz! This session will take you through the process of creating a comic strip, including character ideas, gag writing, various cartooning styles and more.

February 19 – Work Day! Carrie Weis returns to help participants develop a project, whether it be comic book page, comic strip, or single-pane cartoon. Learn how to sort out all of your ideas and present them in a way that you’re happy with to get ready for…

February 26 – Show Day! The community is invited to come to the library and have a look at the projects that have been created. Participants are encouraged to be on hand to explain their work, answer questions and bask in the glory of artisitic celebrity!
