Join us at the Maple Bay Farm and Natural Area for butterfly training with expert, Erwin “Duke” Elsner. If you are interested in learning how to identify butterfly species, their habitat requirements and conservation considerations, this event is for you!

The Basics:
We will begin in a classroom setting to learn identification basics and providing a species overview of what we expect to find. Depending on the weather, we’ll then venture outside to learn survey techniques and start identifying butterflies!

What will volunteers be learning:
Basic butterfly identification
Survey techniques
Butterfly conservation needs and initiatives

What should I bring?
Dress for the weather! Always check the forecast in advance
A notebook and writing utensil
Sturdy, close toed shoes that can handle some mud
Bring a re-usable water bottle and some snacks
Sunscreen and bug spray for your safety and comfort
