North Peak Hosts Mohawks for Munson: A Fundraiser for the Cowell Family Cancer Center

North Peak Brewing Company will be hosting their second annual Mohawks for Munson event in late spring 2017. This fundraising event focuses on supporting the local cancer community here in Northern Michigan. Raising over $25,000 last year for the Cowell Family Cancer Center, the goal for this year’s event is to exceed that amount.

“We are thrilled to partner once again with North Peak Brewing Company for the Mohawks for Munson Event,” shares Kathy Laraia, Executive Director of Oncology Services with Munson Healthcare. “The Cowell Family Cancer Center opened one year ago, and everyday about 300 patients visit the center. Patients may struggle financially while in treatment; we refer to this as Financial Toxicity. Fundraising efforts like this are vital to defray the cost of gas to get to the center, household bills if off work, childcare needs and more. Thank you to our community for contributions made to the Cowell Family Cancer Center.”

Mohawks for Munson will take place Saturday, May 20 in the parking lot of North Peak Brewing Company in downtown Traverse City. Participants will fundraise leading up to the event and then get a mohawk shaved to show their support for Munson’s cancer patients. All money raised will go directly to patients needing funding assistance during treatments. The event will kick off at noon with a BBQ, live music by Mike Moran, free Moomers ice cream, face painting, crafts for kids, Mohawk shaving and a faux-hawk styling station for kids.

Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to register and create a fundraising page on the Mohawks for Munson website, www.mohawksformunson.com.
