Elizabeth Hawkins will be the featured speaker for the November 14th Spotlight Event taking place at the Center for New Media at 1pm in room 120. Hawkins, who will exhibiting in the Arcus Gallery during November, is a writer and artist currently serving as Faculty at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, MI. Her paintings have been exhibited regionally and nationally, including the former Rogue Space in New York City, NY, and The Los Angeles Center for Digital Art in Los Angeles, CA. Her story Where I Fell in Love was featured on the Story Gathering Podcast.

Hawkins says, “I believe art in all its forms compels us to notice beauty, complexity, and subtle variance.  It propels us to record our responses to it.  To participate in it. In this way, creativity moves us from the place of disempowerment to empowerment.   I believe this to be an act of defiance.  Notice how paintings can arouse your curiosity. How music can be evocative of wonder.  How a particular chord progression can uncover a deep ache for the world to be different. Pay attention to that.”
