The Harbor Springs Area Historical Society’s next Harbor History Talk will help you learn more about your roots – roots and folk music that is! Join us to learn more about the history of the Blissfest Music Organization on Thursday, April 19 at 5:30 pm with presenter Jim Gillespie.
Gillespie is the founder and executive director of the Blissfest Music Organization, a non-profit which provides year-round folk arts programming in Emmet County including an annual roots and folk music festival near Cross Village. The first Blissfest Music Festival was held for one day under a big maple tree in a farmer’s field in the summer of 1981. Since then, the festival has grown into one of the most anticipated events of the summer, spanning an entire weekend and attracting attendees from across the country.
Gillespie’s talk will begin at 5:30 pm on the second floor of the Harbor Springs History Museum, 349 E. Main Street, and refreshments will be provided. Admission to the talk is $5 for adults and free for current Historical Society members. Due to limited seating, reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling the Historical Society at (231) 526-9771.
